BINGE EATING DISORDER THERAPY
IN NYC & WESTCHESTER
Do you feel trapped in a cycle of trying to control your eating, only to later feel out of control around food? Do guilt, shame, or frustration often follow meals? Are there certain foods you try to avoid because you fear you won’t be able to stop eating them once you start?
For many people struggling with binge eating disorder, food can begin to take up an overwhelming amount of mental and emotional space. You may find yourself constantly thinking about what you should or shouldn’t eat, trying to “start over” after eating certain foods, or swinging between periods of restriction and binge eating.
If any of this feels familiar, you’re not alone.
Binge Eating Disorder (BED) is the most common eating disorder, yet it is often misunderstood, minimized, or overlooked entirely. Many people struggling with binge eating blame themselves or believe they simply need more willpower or control around food. In reality, binge eating behaviors often develop for complex emotional, psychological, and physiological reasons, including chronic dieting, shame, stress, trauma, perfectionism, and disconnection from the body.
Recovery is possible, and healing does not require punishment, rigid food rules, or learning how to “control yourself better.”
Our Approach to Binge Eating Disorder Therapy
At Body Liberation Collective, we take a compassionate, trauma-informed, and weight-inclusive approach to treating binge eating disorder.
We understand that many clients seeking support for binge eating are also navigating body dissatisfaction, fear of weight gain, shame around eating or a long history of dieting. These experiences do not exist in a vacuum. We live in a culture that constantly reinforces the idea that thinness equals health, worth and success, while simultaneously promoting restriction and disconnection from the body.
Our work together is not about forcing body positivity or pretending these struggles don’t exist. Instead, we help clients begin untangling harmful beliefs around food and bodies while building a more sustainable, compassionate, and trusting relationship with eating.
Why Binge Eating Is Not About “Lack of Control”
Many people struggling with binge eating have spent years trying to be more disciplined around food.
But binge eating is often deeply connected to restriction, shame, emotional distress, and nervous system overwhelm. In many cases, the harder someone tries to tightly control food, the more intense binge eating urges can become.
This is one reason why approaches focused solely on willpower, dieting or food rules often fail long term.

At Body Liberation Collective, we help clients understand the deeper function binge eating may be serving while developing more supportive and sustainable ways of relating to food, emotions and their bodies.
